Artists: Caribou, Super Furry Animals
Venue: Webster Hall, NYC, NY
Date: November 5, 2005
We (Rob and I) got there just a little late, as Caribou was already into their acts. Going through a fairly large setlist (given that they were just the opener), they were fucking amazing. Two drumsets, loads of electronics and other percussion, and a guitarist, I could pick out Dan Snaith (the main guy immediately, despite having never seen a picture of him before and the fact that he was not in the center, but rather, off to the side, going completely crazy on the drumset). This was the first show where I saw the main guy drenched in sweat and perhaps more into the music than the entire audience combined. They also had a synchronized, continuous narrative video playing behind them. There were very few breaks between songs, and the amuont of sound they put-out was incredible. I think I probably lost a cool 5% of hearing in both ears that night, but it was probably worth it. In contrast, Super Furry Animals were quite disappointing, sounding like a lame version of the Doves (albeit dressed in glow-in-the-dark green plastic garbage bags).
