Artists: Longwave, The Cloves
Venue: The Triple Door, Seattle, WA
Date: June 19, 2005
When Alex, my roommate Onur, and I entered this venue, we were a little taken aback–it was a very nice, fancy, stylish sit-down restaurant. However, all the seats were arranged so that they had a good view of the stage. The openers were nothing special, but it was OK, since Longwave came on and gave a great performance. They played several songs from their new album, which was being released in a few days, and I found that their new songs (while similar to their older ones), were even better. The singer was kinda awed by the surroundings, and even said that once he went back to NY, he’d tell all his friends that he got to play in a “nice snazzy sit-down place in Seattle.” Ultimately, however, the venue was not really fitting for them, and as one audience member said after the show, “they rocked too much for a place like this.” Also very startling was that after the show, the band members were just milling around the audience, and I got to meet them all, shake hands, and say some stuff. They just seemed like normal guys, and it really shocked me because somehow I always feel like people who come up with good music are not “normal human beings”, like you or me.
