Analysis of this movie improved my opinion of it slightly, if only because it showed that a lot more care went into its making than I had previously thought. Wrapped nicely in flashy covers, I will still however call this is an action movie at heart, with deeper questions emerging only as an afterthought (that is in fact a sympathetic reading of the film, as I could very easily have imagined it to be a pretentious movie trying to be much than it is). In the end, however, as with many experimental concept films, this one is good only insofar as it opens the doors for other film-makers to come in and play with the enlarged cinematic space this movie explores (such as the use of different media like video, animation, etc., flashy editing like multiple split screens, vivid colors like Lola’s hair, etc.). The time-aspects of this movie are only a hook–deeper meanings about the “butterfly effect” and causality come about easily as a result of the hook, but I feel that they are much more thoroughly explored in video games (especially those with emergent behavior such as the Grand Theft Auto series).
